This is a picture of Charles White and his second wife Molly.
Charles Edward White (1854-1932) was landlord of the Admiral Napier public house in Ash Vale for 35 years. He was Tower Captain at St Peter's Church between 1908 and 1922. His first wife Sarah (nee Youle) died aged only 38 and is buried in the north-east corner of St Peter's churchyard. Her gravestone is engraved with a plant with five stalks on it. The largest flower represents Charles and the flower with the broken stalk represents Sarah. The three buds represent their three children, Emily, Charles and Ada. Charles died of cardiac failure in St Peter's Church, and is buried near to the Cemetery Chapel (D527a). His second wife Mary Ann (Molly) (nee Trow) was buried with him in 1941. |

In Ash Cemetery grave number F2a-b Charles's daughter Ada is buried with her husband Edward Sherrin and their son Edward, who died of meningitis 20 March 1942.
Edward Sherrin died whilst on service with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during WW2, and so his name appears in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission list of casualties and he is remembered in the Ash Second World War Roll of Honour. |

Charles's grand-daughter Molly White was a pupil at Heathcote Memorial School.
In this picture Molly is playing the part of Princess Christobel in Fun in Fairyland at Heathcote School. Later, after she was married and called Molly Wetton, she returned to her old school as a teacher and in due course became Headmistress. Molly Wetton died in 1979 and is buried in Ash Cemetery in grave number K255. |
