George Stevens

Remembered on Ash War Memorial

We have been unable to identify George please let us know if you can help.

Alfred Ernest Ives, the landlord of the Greyhound, wrote to the War Memorial Committee on 1 October 1920. "With reference to your Ash Memorial list, G Stephenson and H Richardson I find are omitted from the list." The typed list has hand written additions in one corner: H Richardson amended to Henry Richardson, and R Stephenson amended to George Stevens. They were men from the Ash end of the parish, and probably did not have family in the village to put their names forward.

The 1915 electoral register lists a George Stevens living at Homeleigh Villas (now 13/15/17 Star Lane) who could be him. Arthur Charles Banfield owned 1-4 Homeleigh Villas and lived in number 1.
